The Abbaye aux Dames and the Abbaye aux Hommes


The Abbaye aux Dames was built by Queen Mathilde between 1060 and 1080.

It includes a crypt and a superb Romanesque abbey church, where Queen Mathilde is buried.

The Men's Abbey was built by William the Conqueror from 1066 onwards and was not completed until the 13th century. It combines Romanesque and Gothic styles.
