The Millennium of Caen 2025
2025 will be a unique and exceptional year for Caen! The city will be celebrating 1,000 years of history in style. The Millennium celebrates this emblematic anniversary, with a year-long programme of artistic and cultural events as rich as they are varied.
It's a unique event not to be missed: the Caen Millennium celebrates the city and its history, combining past and present.
The Best Western Plus Le Moderne, located in the city centre, welcomes you to make the most of this unique event.
Throughout 2025, Caen will be offering a varied programme of festivities. The main theme will be the celebration of its heritage and history.
On 20-22 March, head to Caen Castle for the inauguration of the Millennium. This emblematic site of the city is also one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe.
This is a great opportunity to admire the monumental animated fresco and to follow the brass bands as they wander through the streets of Caen.
These will be held on 21-28 March at 3 historic sites in Caen: the château, the Abbaye-aux-Dames (where an 11th-century medieval village will be recreated) and the University.
At Caen Castle, the Salle de l'Échiquier will plunge visitors into the city's past thanks to 360° projections on the stone walls.
In just 15 minutes, you'll travel back through 1,000 years of history!
On 9 May, the Opera Parade will light up the town along a 5km route. You'll love the parade by the Caen-based company Le ballon vert, made up of artists, circus performers and musicians.
They will be retracing the history of Caen in their own way. One of the highlights of the show is the parade of monumental floats, a blend of poetry and heritage.
Caen is synonymous with the sea. It will be in the spotlight on 27-29 June during this maritime weekend. 48 rigs will be casting off from Caen harbour.
You'll be impressed by the majestic Belem, and enchanted by the nautical animations, monumental ephemeral works and the maritime parade.
The aquatic show between sky and sea will take place on 19 and 21 September, again in the harbour.
The Cikus Cirkor Company, accompanied by synchronised swimmers, have come up with a musical and collective work of art that you'll remember forever.
Many other events will punctuate the Caen Millennium, which will come to a close in December with a digital art trail through the city.
