Our hiking ideas in Caen

Grimbosq Woods

Discover the magnificent landscapes of Caen

Strolls, hikes, unusual discoveries, find below our unmissable ideas to do during your stay in our hotel in Caen, the Best Western Plus Le Moderne.

A bucolic escapade in the gardens of Caen

Fancy a stroll in the heart of magnificent French gardens?

Go to the Parc Michel-d'Ornano, also known as the gardens of the Abbaye aux Dames. It is classified as a historical monument for its beautiful flowerbeds, its alleys of lime trees and its tumulus labyrinth.

Admire one of the most beautiful views of Caen and its bell towers by going to the cèdre du Liban hill! End the walk with the Jardin des Plantes with its 8000 plant species and the Jardin Botanique, a small paradise of flowers and rare plants.

Bike ride along the Orne canal

Ride your bike in complete tranquility along the protected greenways. Between the numerous cycle tracks, the Vélomaritime, the voie verte, the Vélo Francette, a beautiful program awaits you. Our hotel is labeled Accueil Vélo!

Leave from downtown Caen and follow the canal to reach the beautiful seaside resort of Ouistreham. On your way, you will cross the famous Pegasus Bridge, the Viaduc de Calix and its basin as well as the 18th century Château de Bénouville.

Escape to the forest of Grimbosq

For hikers, the forest of Grimbosq is a must!

Located at 15km from Caen, it is even possible to go there by following the green way of the Suisse Normande. With its 483 hectares of forest, you have the choice between 3 walking tours (from 1h30 to 3h of walking), its 4 educational trails or its animal trail.

Then stop at the arboretum to discover 125 species of trees from all over the world.

A gentle stroll in the Caprice woods

Both preserved and energizing, this mysteriously named wood will make you want to escape. With its 73 hectares, it is a real natural labyrinth dotted with forest ponds, meadows and woods that you will find. Ideal to discover the richness and variety of Caen's nature!

Equipped with a good pair of shoes, discover an unsuspected fauna and flora along a 2.5 km long trail. Something to satisfy all nature lovers' desires!

Discovery of the sleeping cemeteries

Don't be fooled by their intriguing names... Dormant cemeteries are places where nature offers the most beautiful, meditative and romantic walks. Along the walkways, observe century-old trees that guard, for eternity, the writers and other personalities of the region.

At the Saint-Pierre cemetery, knife engravings recall the French of the past. You can also go to the Saint-Nicolas cemetery, the oldest in Caen, to read a commemorative plaque in honor of two Caen sculptors, located on the outside wall of the cemetery.
