Normandy Channel Race 2024
Normandy celebrates sailing
The Normandy Channel Race takes place every spring in the heart of the English Channel.
This sailing race is unusual in that it is a double-handed event, meaning that the crews are made up of two sailors.
The participants sail aboard monohulls, 12-metre racing boats.
A nautical highlight in France
The race generally starts in Caen, where the boats head for the English Channel.
From one edition to the next, the course varies, but often includes a number of course marks in the English Channel and Celtic Sea, before returning to Caen for the finish.
The total distance covered in the Normandy Channel Race is around 1000 nautical miles, or almost 1850 kilometres.
Since 2010, it has been one of the major annual events not to be missed in French and European sailing circles.
A highly anticipated 2024 season
From 13 to 22 September 2024, the Normandy Channel Race will feature professional sailors as well as amateur sailing enthusiasts.
Crews come from all over the world to take part in this prestigious event.
The race is renowned for a number of reasons:
- Changing and sometimes difficult weather conditions
- Strong currents
- Tides
- Variable winds
