D-Day landing beaches

Unavoidable, relive the history of the landing.

 

A territory steeped in history...

It was on these beaches that the Overlord operation of the Second World War took place. Although the Allies suffered heavy losses, this invasion reversed the course of the war and contributed to the fall of Nazi Germany. Today, the beaches of Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha and Utah are known collectively as the Landing Beaches.

In the footsteps of the Second World War

To begin your discovery, we invite you to go to Arromanches, which houses two museums allowing you to understand the context of the sites during the war.

Then to the west, along the beach, is the moving Normandy American Cemetery. A poignant experience where you will walk along endless rows of white crosses: about 2000 Americans lost their lives there on 6 June 1944.

At Omaha Beach, the Memorial Museum conveys the history and memory of those who died while providing the historical context of the German occupation and the liberation from the Allies. You will be immersed in the daily life of the German and Allied forces, discover uniforms and everyday objects of the time, and gain access to archival photographs and documents from the period on Operation Overlord.

The bomb craters at Pointe du Hoc are also particularly moving.
